Dupont Strip

Occupying a small but energetic stretch just north of the downtown core, the Dupont Strip is an emerging neighbourhood in the city that balances the activity of downtown life, with the peacefulness of residential neighbourhoods.

Running along Dupont Avenue, an east-west thoroughfare parallel to Bloor Street, the Dupont Strip spans from Davenport on the eastern edge to just past Walmer Road on the west.

The relatively new neighbourhood has developed on the northern edge of the Annex, a neighbouring area full of life and activity and featuring some of the most well known bars, clubs, and shops in the city. It is also just south of Casa Loma, another historic part of the city with brilliant architecture and landscapes.

The Dupont Strip Business Improvement Area was formed recently, as more and more residents flock to the area and businesses continue to grow. Once simply an area between bigger and more notable neighbourhoods, the Dupont Strip, or simply The Strip as it is also referred, is a small but charming stretch near the heart of the city.

How to Get to the Dupont Strip

It is easy to get to and from the Strip, with the subway stations Dupont, St. George, and Bay all in close proximity, and the Yonge line running north and south is not far off either.

Local coffee shops abound in the area, none more welcoming and delicious than Ezra's Pound, an independently owned café with the finest espresso in the area. The coffee shop offers fair trade and organic coffee as well as a place to relax with friends or get connected and work in peace. The owner of the shop, Ezra Braves, is also the vice-chair of the Dupont Strip BIA, and continues to promote the area as a unique and compelling neighbourhood in the city.

While the area has no particular cultural association, it does feature a variety of ethnic cuisine and dining. Playa Cabana just near the Annex serves Mexican dishes, the Rice Factory specializes in Indian cuisine, and Diverso by Ferraro showcases fine Italian dining.

Councilor Adam Vaughan

Located in Ward 20, the Dupont Strip falls under the purview of Councilor Adam Vaughan, one of the most well regarded and popular elected officials in the city. First elected in 2006, Vaughan has worked to promote family living in the city, increase green space and public parks in his ward, and continues to be a strong proponent of the arts.

In addition, Vaughan has worked with several different Business Improvement Area groups, seeing five new ones formed during his inaugural term, including the new Dupont Strip BIA.

One of the most enticing parts of the living in the Strip is its proximity to the downtown core and everything the city has to offer. The area is conveniently located to the downtown campus of the University of Toronto, a vibrant and bustling area in the heart of the city that is home to not only classes, but sports, lectures, and live theatre and entertainment.

The area is filled with green spaces and historical architecture and is a great place to simply wander upon and enjoy some leisure time in a spot that is truly an escape from the city.

The Dupont Strip is also nearby the esteemed Royal Ontario Museum. An exciting and informative city retreat, the newly renovated ROM is home to ancient and modern historical artifacts, scientific ventures, and interactive games for children and adults alike.

Another bordering neighbourhood is the extravagant and charming Yorkville. An area filled with the finest in retail shops, fine dining experiences, and chic nightlife, Yorkville is a perfect complement and escape for those living nearby on the Dupont Strip.

The Dupont Strip is surely one of the smaller and newer areas of the city, but is fraught with potential as the area continues to attract residents and businesses. The city of Toronto is filled with neighbourhood of all sizes all across the landscape, and the Dupont Strip is simply one of the latest to start to fill out and form an identity.

It is an area that borders on the activity and entertainment of the downtown core, but also one with access to public space and leisure escapes. It is a centrally located neighbourhood; one filled with young professionals and families alike, a group of people looking to develop a strong and compassionate identity.

While the name may change as residents look for a more evocative neighbourhood moniker, the Dupont Strip continues to grow and develop in Toronto.
